Tour description

The valley of Sham in the lower part of Ladakh, is celebrated for its beauty and richness during the harvesting season. This trek follows the old caravan route to Lamayuru which diverges from the Kargil-Leh road at the Phatu La. According to legend, Lamayuru was once a lake, which miraculously disappeared by the hand of Lotsawa Naropa. The monastery at Lamayuru built in the 10th century is one of the oldest in Ladakh, and belongs to the Kargyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. This trek offers not only view of the many natural beauties of Ladakh, but also some of its most famous monasteries and the traditional lifestyle of the natives.

Is this Holiday for you ?

This trek is suitable for most hill walkers and generally involves trekking at moderate altitude, on good paths and tracks. It is a great introductory trek in the high Himalayas for anyone looking for the same. Our professional guides will guide you all the way and will provide you the information and tips you need for the trek. There is fair bit of walking to be done every day, and we would encourage you to do a bit of walking/running and breathing exercises to enjoy this trek. A fair level of fitness will be required and help you enjoy the holiday more.

Why trekkers love us?

traveling with UFO to a place like Nagaland for the Hornbill Festival and Dzukou Valley trek, was a very enriching experience for me as i realized that traveling with a well seasoned team that goes out of its way to make your trip adventurous and fun is way better than traveling alone and wasting your time getting lost and figuring things out on your own. Their itinerary was perfect. It covered everything from trekking , camping to attending the Hornbill Festival and trying different kinds of food.

Jasmine Singh

I am a mom of three under 5 and a baker. So fitness took a back seat for me for a long time with everything else taking priority. I was apprehensive when i signed up for Rumtse to Tso kar trek in Ladakh but UFO team gave fantastic personalized attention. As a first time trekker I could not ask for more. Thank you team UFO for an experience that is going to stay with me for a long long time !

Sumedha Singh

For a first-time trekker, I thought picking Mt. Kilimanjaro was maybe not the smartest choice. But thanks to UFO it felt like a breeze. The guides and crew were excellent in every single way. If you are thinking of conquering the Roof of Africa, I would definitely recommend using UFO as your adventure guides. They prepare you for every step of the way - from buying your trekking gear to getting you safely back down.

Which are the famous mountaineering peaks in Ladakh?

Stok Kangri(6150m) is the highest walking peak in India and draws a lot of climbers due to its height and non technicality. Kang Yatse (6400m),Mentok Kangri (6210m),Golep Kangri (6000m) and Nun (7135m) Kun (7085m) are other famous mountaineering peaks.

If we have to organize a trek near Leh, the transportation cost and carriage cost is less expensive. Markha Valley trek is more accessible from Leh than the Rumtse to Tso moriri trek, therefore it will be cheaper than it. Horses to carry your luggage also play an important component to trek cost.
